What You'll Learn

What Causes an ISO 27001 Project to Take Longer

Carla Melendez discusses the four main causes of delays she sees most often, and how to address them right from the start.

1

A project entrusted solely to a technical specialist

ISO 27001 also covers organizational and legal aspects. Without project management or knowledge of the standard, the timeline will slip.

2

An overly detailed risk analysis

Hundreds of assets and risks that no one reviews. Consolidating the information that needs to be protected makes the analysis clear and easy to repeat each year.

3

Excessive documentation

A 30-page policy isn't helpful to anyone. Short documents that simply state the rule—and nothing more—are sufficient for the audit and for your teams.

4

An action plan without priorities

Trying to do everything before the audit is a never-ending task. Prioritize based on risk, address what’s necessary, and save the rest for continuous improvement.

The Method Presented

Six steps, in this order

Each step builds on what you already have in place. The goal: a functioning information security management system (ISMS), rather than just another file.

1

Defining the Scope

Choose the activities to certify—the ones that matter to your customers. If the scope is defined poorly, you’ll have to go back and start over.

2

Identify Discrepancies

Start with your current practices and identify what still needs to be added—and nothing more.

3

Analyze Risks

A simple, standards-compliant method that your team can follow every year. It sets the priorities for the action plan.

4

Defining the WSIS

Concise policies and procedures, tailored to the way you work.

5

Roll Out with Your Teams

Weekly meetings and steering committees to ensure a smooth process.

6

Mock audit, followed by certification

A mock audit under real-world conditions, conducted by another project manager; addressing nonconformities; and then the audit by the certification body.

Frequently asked questions

Before starting the masterclass

Is the masterclass free?

Yes. Once you've registered, you'll have access to the full 50-minute masterclass.

Is six months a realistic timeframe for my business?

This is a target timeline. It depends on the scope of your project, what’s already in place, and the availability of your teams. An eligibility assessment can confirm this before you get started.

Does Feel Agile offer certification?

No. The certification is issued by an independent certification body following its audit. Feel Agile prepares you, conducts a mock audit, and can support you on the day of the audit.

My project has already started. Will the masterclass still be helpful to me?

Yes. It helps identify what's holding back an ongoing project. The sooner you make adjustments, the better: four months before the audit gives you time to restructure, while two months is often too short.

What happens after I sign up?

You will gain access to the full masterclass. Based on your selections in the form, you will then receive some content on ISO 27001 certification, with an unsubscribe link in each email.
